FreshBooks lets you create personalized, professional-looking invoices to match your business; automatically bill your clients for recurring invoices; and accept credit cards on your mobile device. Other useful features include the ability to track and organize expenses from anywhere and create customizable business reports, such as profit and loss statements. FreshBooks works on PCs, iOS and Android devices.
The next thing to consider will be the role of the app in your business. If it is holding a core position in your business, then the business should monetize the application. Initially, you can launch a free version & never forget to add awesome features which can tempt users to upgrade. Don’t advertise other businesses often, as it might decrease your app download ratio. Features like geo-location based services, call-to-action options, easy contact options can make the app more user-friendly.
Dropbox is available in a free version. As a small business owner, you are in charge of so much: finances, project management, communications, marketing, and hiring — to name a few. Encountering issues from one or more of these departments is just your typical day in the office. However, putting out fires can consume a considerable amount of time and energy. Why get held back by day-to-day concerns when some of the best mobile apps can make your life much easier and your business more successful?
Slack is a free (with optional paid tiers) chat app that's ideal for teams. You can create channels for different topics or members, send direct messages, host video calls without leaving the app, search archived conversations, and drag and drop images, videos and PDFs. One major reason Slack is so popular with SMBs is because it can integrate with more than 1,500 different apps, including Salesforce, Dropbox, Google Drive, Concur, Asana and Trello.
We live in a fantastic time to be a small business owner. Technology continues to introduce new tools and functionalities that make virtually each and every aspect of business management more simple and efficient. Small business apps and tools are opening new horizons of growth. Twenty years ago, business owners had to struggle with tasks that were beyond their professional expertise, or otherwise outsource them and spend large sums. Today, they can do so much themselves, like creating a professional website for their businesses (no matter how computer-savvy they are), taking bookings and payments, managing complex budgets and more.
The Intuit QuickBooks app is an immense help when it comes to your accounting and bookkeeping needs. It includes robust tools to track your expenses and sales. Users appreciate that they can use their mobile devices to do things like send invoices and accept payments via email. You can also share access with your accountant so you’re better prepared for tax time. QuickBooks offers its business app free for 30 days.
OmniFocus is also offered with a free Sync Server that removes the hassles of syncing your data across all devices. Using any device, you can see your work in a variety of specifics such as checking on your upcoming day, planning, to-do and more. Your personal life responsibilities can easily be separated from business activities to create an overall time management solution.
Mobile Analytics is a blessing for any business. You can have a 360-degree view of your entire business process. You can keep track of emails, contacts, appointments, team meetings, projects, financials etc. Sale support analytics can be added, which can automate your entire sales lifecycle and your sales team can close more deals quickly. A mobile analytics solution integrated with your business app saves time, gives you real time actionable insights, looks more organized and can optimize overall productivity. It can be proved as a perfect growth model for your business.
Evernote is an app that helps businesses keep notes (handwritten or other) in one location as opposed to having them scattered all over your desk. Create a note once and it is available across all of your devices including iOS and Android mobile devices.  Additionally, the scanning feature can find specific images, words, and handwritten notes.  These elements can easily be translated to a whiteboard for presentations and brainstorming.
TSheets is, you guessed it, also an Intuit solution, but that's not why we included it on this list. TSheets is hands-down one of the best time-tracking software solutions out there for SMBs, and the app makes mobile access a breeze. With this SaaS and app combo, you can officially get rid of paper timesheets and manual time entry. If your business has lots of remote or field workers, you'll love the GPS location tracking, which allows you to view employee location data, and the timeclock function, which uses facial recognition to confirm identity. TSheets also makes it easy to create and disseminate employee schedules and integrate with any other Intuit products you use. The entry-level subscription is $25 a month (plus $5 for each additional user), and the app is included.
Smartphone usage has been on a tear as of late. Nearly three-quarters of Americans check their mobile phones at least once per hour, according to a Gallup survey.  Almost all – 90 percent – of that mobile-phone time is now devoted to using apps, analysis reveals. Americans now spend more time looking at their mobile phones than they do watching television.

That also means that this list of the best business apps isn’t exhaustive, so you may be wondering why your go-to app for small business didn’t make the cut. Here, we tried to strike a balance between those classics (like LinkedIn), while also introducing you to some brand-new business apps that, we hope, will make it to your home screen (Todoist, perhaps?).
3.       Act as a marketing tool – More than just an application, a mobile app can double as a valuable marketing tool. How? It can be easily integrated with Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and other social media sites. That means, with a single tap, customers can share with their network your app and or their experience with your company, which can then offer you free publicity. Plus, using push notification, you can quickly send upcoming promotions or special events to your customers and prospects.
If you know you waste too much time on digital distractions like Facebook, Twitter, or online shopping, RescueTime can hold you accountable. It breaks down where you spend your time by application and website and lets you set productivity goals. A premium version even lets you block certain sites, track offline activity, or set notifications (like if you’ve spent too much time on one activity, for instance).
With the TSheets app, you can track your employees’ hours, see who’s currently working, and manage employees from any mobile device. It also features an easy way to approve paid time off, vacations, and timesheets. TSheets comes with a variety of features to help make business finances easier, like automatic overtime alerts and multilocation management. Approved timesheets easily integrate with QuickBooks to make your business accounting a breeze. For Square sellers, TSheets integrates easily with your Square POS system too, so employees can clock in and out right on your Square Stand by entering their unique four-digit passcode. Small business owners like the simplicity and adaptability of the app, and the fact that it syncs with their online accounts.
Why do I need it? Email marketing is an effective and affordable way for your business to stay in touch with its customers. With the MailChimp app installed on your smartphone, you can manage your email marketing strategy whenever and wherever you want. Start and build a customer database, track subscriber activity, preview drafts of upcoming campaigns, check out reports and a whole lot more. By monitoring trends in customer engagement and campaign success you'll be well placed to continue growing your business.

Trello is an easy-to-use project management app that tracks your team’s workflow. Each card you create on a Trello board represents an assignment or task. Whenever you change a card, Trello notifies each member via email and on mobile devices.
You may be scared to partner with a nearshore or offshore app development company. However, the best offshore or nearshore companies will have the software and processes in place to ensure smooth communication and collaboration, no matter how many miles away they are located. Just be sure you properly research the company to make sure this is true.

In December 2014, Google introduced the Google for Work and Education Partner Program. The program combined existing, individual programs from Apps, Chrome, Cloud Platform, Maps, and Search into one overall program, and "allows partners to better sell, service and innovate across the Google for Work and Education suite of products and platforms".[93][94]
As a small business owner, you probably wish you could be in two places at once—and one of those places is likely the office. Luckily, there’s an app for that: LogMeIn allows users safe, remote access to their home and work computers (both Mac and PC) when they’re on the go, from either their phones or tablets. With this business app, you can access every desktop capability on your phone or tablet, including editing files and printing.
If you have a very small business and don't want to pay anything for your accounting software, Wave gives you that option. The mobile apps only track receipts and expenses, but they integrate with the cloud-based service. More features are available for a fee. It gets 4.2 stars on Google Play, and all versions average 3.5 stars on the App Store, although the most recent iOS version has only 3 stars.
Ultimately, what they do for a business owner is give them more control over that part of the business. An inventory management app, for example, provides constant, up-to-date information on what’s in stock, what’s on order and what needs ordering. It’s also highly functional, letting you make orders, fulfil deliveries and even take payments through one piece of software.
This rise in mobile-phone usage means that smartphone apps have become a key marketing tool for companies of all sizes, including small businesses. Mobile apps increase engagement with customers. They boost repeat visits, and permit a wide variety of online transactions, including the deployment of loyalty cards, push promotions, and ecommerce transactions.  Apps deliver coupons and send announcements that build your sales with customers. Apps also accelerate contact with your company, which enhances relationships with customers in a world where speedy responses are prized by buyers. Smartphone icons even help build brands by providing a visual design that customers recognize.
Basecamp organizes your project into six categories, not one to-do list like Trello and Asana. With the Basecamp app, your project or team will get: a chatroom, a message board, a documents and images bank, a task list, a calendar, and a recurring check-in system. It’s a slightly different philosophy of workflow management, but just might work better with your team than the other alternatives!

This small business app lets you send and receive secure and legally binding contracts for your business. You can upload PDFs and email them to clients, and filling out signatures and timestamps takes only minutes. The app also allows you to edit the PDF before you send it, and you can also scan documents using the camera on your phone. Users enjoy the simple, sleek design and how it simplifies business operations.
Last, but not least, the most important reason why you should consider building your own mobile app is customer loyalty. With all the noise out there — roadside banners, billboards, flashing signs, newspaper ads, flyers, coupons, websites, website banners, Facebook ads, and email marketing — we slowly lose our impact on customers because of the immense amount of advertising surrounding us all. It’s time to go back to making a true and sincere connection with your customers, and making them a loyal lover of your product and/or service. I am not saying a mobile app is going to save your business, but it can be a way of staying closer to your customers, and being just a “fingertip” away at all times.

One of the biggest benefits of having a mobile app is that all the information you’d like to provide to your customers – including special sales and promotions – is right at their fingertips. Through push notifications you’re getting even closer to a direct interaction, and can easily remind customers about your products and services whenever it makes sense.

Talking about on-hand information, how about digitalizing that loyalty program you have in place? Instead of sticking to the old point-collection card, make it possible for your customers to collect their rewards via your mobile app. The result? More downloads and more return customers. (Check out PunchMe, a service that lets you create smartphone-based loyalty programs.)
Great article! I would add that it's important to create long-form, quality content. Sometimes it can be tempting, especially to new content creators, to crank out short pieces stuffed with keywords. Not only is that not useful to the audience, it's not going to get you anywhere in terms of search engine rankings either. The goal should be to create educational content that is useful and engaging; that will help build your brand and, over time, push you up in the search engine rankings as well.

One thing every user will check before using or while using your app- Your app reviews & other user comments. Users are motivated by other users, not by what you are telling them. Try to create a community of your users so that they can interact with each other. Listen to them & find solutions for common issues. You can ask the question- You can do it through social media also. Yes, you can, but creating an in-app community can increase you app traffic & that what you want. Which is not possible in case of a typical website.

When I Work provides an easy way to schedule and communicate with your hourly employees, saving you a ton of time and reducing absenteeism. If there’s an open shift, you can make it available to all employees in 30 seconds, and you can send employees a mobile alert when the schedule changes. Business owners can also easily monitor shift trades or time-off requests, and set up personalized timecard stations on a desktop or tablet to allow easy employee clock ins and clock outs. The app can remind employees with an alert before their shift begins.
Dropbox keeps all your business files (like documents and images) safe, synced, and easy to share. It’s an excellent organizational and collaborative tool for teams. It only downloads files when you need to access them, so it won’t eat up all your storage. More than 500 million businesses use Dropbox to store and share files for their business. This includes the more than 150,000 businesses, like Pinterest, Intuit, and Hyatt Hotels, that use their paid service.

Another storage and file sharing option, Google Drive, lets you keep all files related to your business in one place that you can access from your laptop, tablet or phone. You can also set sharing permissions to allow people to view, comment or edit documents and you can view files offline. Documents are accessible from any device, and business owners love that they can collaborate safely with clients anywhere.

But think about it. If a person hears about your app in the middle of the night and wants to get information ASAP, all they have to do is turn on their device and download your app. Later, when a thought pops into their head that they should buy your product, they can do it immediately, without having to wait for regular business hours when normal human beings are awake.

Using the apps and extensions for multiple platforms, you can access you tasks from anywhere and at any time using a mobile device, web browser, tablet, or laptop.  Additionally, you have access to tools that allow you to visualize your productivity including sub tasks, sub projects, notifications, due dates, recurring dates, reminders, labels and filters, productivity tracking, team collaboration and much more.

And no, a mobile app may not save your business, but it is a sure way of securing a strong presence in your industry. Instead of being some abstract concept of a brand your customers appreciate, that they imagine has a headquarters in some faraway city – you’ll be right in their pockets. Your logo will be placed on their mobile phone screens by default.
5.       Generate more income – A mobile application with order fulfillment ability can readily provide another revenue channel, aside from your website and or brick and mortar store. For example, functionality to make restaurant reservations, book concert tickets, buy goods and services, etc. are possible with a few taps/clicks. But wait, there’s more! You can also earn by charging app users when they upgrade, or by offering in-app advertisements, etc.
How much of a big deal this is for you will depend on the nature of your business: if you are expected by clients to routinely provide them with extensively, immaculately formatted MS Office files then you’re not always going to be able to do that with G Suite. But if you just need to occasionally open an MS Office file, or send something basic over to a client in MS Office format, you would usually be able to make do perfectly well with Google’s suite of products.
The Kanban board is conveniently separated into columns which can be customized to fit your workflow processes.  The board allows you to easily see at a glance a comprehensive overview of all current work tasks and projects. Additionally, you can collaborate in real-time, stay updated with the mobile web app, track the time spent on tasks and projects, and access advanced analytics and reporting.
